Highlights

  • Gold production restarts at the Georgetown facility with first doré poured.
  • All major processing circuits at GGPP fully operational during recommissioning.
  • Initial lower-grade milling underway as plant ramps toward steady-state operations.

Savannah Goldfields Limited (ASX:SVG) announced that gold production has resumed at the Georgetown Gold Processing Plant (GGPP), part of the Georgetown Gold Project in Far North Queensland, approximately 480 km southwest of Cairns. The restart included the successful pour of the first gold doré since January 2024, weighing about 1.5 kg. The gold content of the doré will be determined after refining under the Company's existing arrangement with the Perth Mint.

Processing Plant Fully Recommissioned

According to the update, all core components of the GGPP—including crushing, milling, gravity recovery, and leaching and elution circuits—are now operating. During recommissioning, the Company cycled all existing carbon stocks through the elution circuit and subsequently restarted the electrowinning circuit. Metal sludge from electrowinning was then used to recommission the gold room, which enabled the first doré pour.

Crushing operations continue, with more than 3,500 tonnes of crushed feed now stockpiled at the site and an additional 6,000 tonnes of uncrushed material available. Milling has resumed with lower-grade ore, with feed rates expected to rise gradually until the plant reaches stable operating conditions.

Big Reef Mining to Begin in November

The operational team is preparing to commence small-scale open-pit mining at Big Reef. The planned pit extension along strike is expected to supply up to 18,000 tonnes of Inferred Mineral Resource to the GGPP for processing. Early works will include clearing, topsoil removal, blast-hole drilling and grade control sampling. Mining using conventional benching methods with hydraulic excavators and articulated trucks is scheduled to begin in November.

Agate Creek Activity Progressing Toward Q2 2026

Savannah is finalising an application to amend the Agate Creek Environmental Authority to support expanded mining activities. The submission is expected shortly, with mining at Agate Creek and processing of its ore at the GGPP targeted to resume in Q2 2026.

Hub-and-Spoke Strategy Under Evaluation

The Georgetown plant remains the only gold processing facility within a 400 km radius, surrounded by stranded mineralisation and numerous historic pits. The Company continues evaluating opportunities related to third-party ore processing, potential joint ventures and possible acquisitions in the region. Design work for a future sulphide-ore processing stream is also being advanced, to be developed after production stabilises at Georgetown.
