Pioneer Lithium Ltd (ASX:PLN) is fast-tracking exploration at its Skull Creek uranium project in Colorado, responding to growing U.S. government support for improving domestic uranium supply.

The company is initiating a two-phase soil sampling program across key uranium prospects at Skull Creek. Phase one will focus on County Line, Blue Mountain, Skyline, and Railroad — four geologically strategic locations — with the goal of defining targets for Pioneer Lithium's maiden drilling campaign. Phase two will extend sampling across a ~17 km strike length, aiming to identify uranium-hosting Sego Sandstone and Carbonaceous Shales hidden beneath surface soil layers.

The accelerated exploration push is underpinned by recent federal moves, including U.S. President Donald Trump invoking the Defense Production Act to stimulate domestic uranium mining and enrichment. The move follows the official ban on Russian uranium imports, which currently account for a large portion of the U.S. nuclear fuel supply chain. At present, only 2% of U.S. reactor uranium demand is met by domestic production.

Previous fieldwork at Skull Creek has already yielded promising results. High-grade rock chip samples recorded up to 1,240 ppm uranium, while all samples returned anomalous uranium values, indicating the presence of a potentially large-scale, high-grade mineralised system. In addition, radiometric anomalies peaked at 10,100 counts per second (cps) within key lithological zones.

Consideruing geological indicators and heightened U.S. government support for domestic uranium projects, Pioneer Lithium is positioning Skull Creek as a high-impact uranium asset in a Tier-1 jurisdiction. Pioneer Lithium shares surging over 69% on 28 May 2025
