NRW Holdings Limited (ASX:NWH) has announced the award of a new construction contract by Rio Tinto for work at the Brockman Syncline 1 mine development in Western Australia’s Pilbara region. The contract will be executed by NRW Civil & Mining, a division of the company.

Valued at approximately AUD 167 million, the project involves the delivery of major civil construction activities across the mine’s key infrastructure. NRW will be responsible for a comprehensive scope of work including the construction of earthworks, roadworks, and drainage systems associated with the primary crusher, overland conveyor, and various non-process infrastructure (NPI). The project also includes construction of access and haul roads.

Additionally, the scope covers drill and blast services, supply and installation of a mechanically stabilised earth run-of-mine (ROM) wall, and the construction of two precast concrete overpass tunnels. NRW will also build in-situ concrete foundations for the primary crusher, forming part of the mine’s central processing area.

The contract is set to commence immediately, and workforce mobilisation is expected to peak at over 300 personnel. The Brockman Syncline 1 development is part of Rio Tinto’s broader Brockman Mine Hub operations, which includes multiple existing and developing iron ore sites across the Pilbara.

The location of the Brockman Syncline 1 site is strategically close to several other NRW-managed projects in the region. These include the Brockman 4 to Brockman 2 Haul Road contract currently in progress, and the recently completed Western Turner Northern Access Road project, also delivered by NRW Civil & Mining.

This latest award builds on the existing business relationship between NRW Holdings and Rio Tinto. The companies have collaborated on various mining and infrastructure contracts across the Pilbara over the past decade. The award of the Brockman Syncline 1 contract marks a continuation of that working relationship in one of Australia’s most resource-intensive regions.
