Highlights
- Drilling at T8 Rare Earths discovery to begin on 10 November 2025.
- 39-hole program approved by government and landholders to expand high-grade REE zone.
- ABx reports Dy and Tb grades among the highest globally for ionic clay deposits.
ABx Group Limited (ASX:ABX) has confirmed it will commence drilling at its T8 Rare Earths discovery in northern Tasmania on 10 November 2025. The company has received approvals from both government authorities and landholders to drill 39 holes aimed at expanding the high-grade rare earth elements (REE) mineralisation discovered during a scout drill campaign in May 2025.
The company stated that the equipment assembled for this program has been designed to operate across a wide area without impacting the grazing land where the rare earth elements occur.
High Dysprosium and Terbium Grades
According to ABx, the grades of dysprosium (Dy) and terbium (Tb) identified across its Tasmanian rare earth resources are the highest of any ionic adsorption clay deposit in Australia and among the highest worldwide. The company’s T8 discovery hole (TB008) intersected mineralised zones with total rare earth oxides (TREO) reaching up to 5,318 ppm and Dy+Tb making up as much as 4.6% of TREO.
ABx noted that its Tasmanian rare earth projects are well suited for early, low-cost production due to the shallow nature of the mineralisation and the ionic absorption clay type of deposit. Over the past 18 months, ABx has developed connections with planned processing operations in the United States, including Ucore Rare Metals Inc.
Management Commentary
Dr Mark Cooksey, Managing Director and CEO of ABx Group, said:
“ABx is excited to be drilling for extensions of this shallow, high-grade rare-earth mineralisation which confirmed that all of ABx’s REE mineralisation in northern Tasmania are exceptionally high grade in Dy & Tb which is potentially globally significant and unmatched in Australia. ABx is investigating a low cost, low impact method of rapidly developing this rare earth province.
“China’s restriction on exports of critical heavy rare earths, especially Dy & Tb, sends a clear message to the global market and ABx is in a unique position with its Dy & Tb-rich shallow clay hosted rare earth deposit in a stable jurisdiction. Dy & Tb are vital for many products including military technologies and offshore wind turbines. This is recognised by the industry, for example our MoU to supply rare earth feedstock to Ucore which is planning a Strategic Metals Complex in Louisiana with the support of the US Government.”
