Recently, Medibank announced the appointment of Dr Tracey Batten as a non-executive director with effect from 28 August 2017. Dr Batten is an experienced clinician with over 25 years of experience in the health system both in Australia and overseas. She is currently the CEO of the Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and prior to this she was the CEO of St Vincent's Health Australia where she led the restructuring of a network of state based private and public hospitals into a successful national organization. Dr Batten has previously held the roles of CEO of Eastern Health and Dental Health Services Victoria. This appointment is the result of non-executive director Dr Cherrell Hirst's decision to retire from the Medibank board.  We maintain an “Expensive” recommendation on the stock at current market price of $2.75

NIB Holdings Limited

Recently, NIB holdings (nib) has been advised by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) that it intends to institute proceedings in the Federal Court against nib’s Australian residents’ health fund primarily in relation to an alleged failure in August 2015 to communicate to customers limited changes made to its MediGap Scheme. MediGap is a scheme in which doctors and other in-hospital medical providers can elect to receive a higher level of fee reimbursement subject to there being no “out of pocket” expense for the patient. However, nib rejects the position being taken by the ACCC and as it believes acted lawfully and ethically. nib has worked collaboratively with the ACCC throughout its investigation and has already taken steps to redress many ACCC concerns. We reiterate an “Expensive” recommendation on the stock at the current price of $5.71
