Perseus Mining Limited (ASX: PRU)

Founded in 2004, Perseus Mining Limited (ASX: PRU) is committed to discovering, acquiring, and developing a portfolio of gold producing assets in Africa. The multi-mine, multi-jurisdictional gold-focused company operates three mines in West Africa. The ASX-listed company is also engaged in mineral exploration and evaluation activities in the region.

Recommendation Rationale – SELL at AUD 3.265

  • Trading Around Resistance: PRU’s share price has surpassed its R1 level, recommended on 25 February 2025.
  • Overvalued Multiples: On a trailing 12-month basis, the stock is trading at an EV/EBITDA multiple of 3.3x vs industry (Metals & Mining) median of 1.6x
  • Decline in Gold Sales: In 1HFY25, total gold sales decreased by 2% year-on-year to 245,518 ounces, while gold production also fell by 3% year-on-year during the same period.
  • Emerging Risks: Increased operating costs, driven by inflation or operational disruptions, could affect profitability. Striking a balance between sustaining capital investments and cost control is essential to achieving future production goals. The company's financial performance is also highly sensitive to fluctuations in gold prices, with a substantial decline potentially impacting revenue, profitability, and overall stability.

PRU Daily Price Chart

Valuation Methodology: P/E Approach (FY June'26E) (Illustrative)

Stock might trade at a slight premium to its peers, considering the company’s zero debt position, 22% increase in net profit for 1HFY25, reaffirmed FY25 gold production outlook, and other factors. For valuation, few peers like West African Resources Ltd (ASX: WAF), Resolute Mining Ltd (ASX: RSG), and Vault Minerals Ltd (ASX: VAU) have been considered. Considering the rally in share price movement, current trading level, and risks associated, the share price can witness resistance at the current levels. Hence, a ‘Sell’ recommendation is given on the stock at the current market price of AUD 3.265, as of 14 March 2025, at 12:00 PM AEDT.
