Coast Entertainment Holdings Limited (ASX: CEH)

CEH is an Australia-based company, which invests and operates leisure and entertainment businesses. The company's theme parks and attractions business include Dreamworld and WhiteWater World in Coomera, Queensland and the SkyPoint observation deck and climb in Surfers Paradise, Queensland.

Recommendation Rationale - SELL at AUD 0.50

  • Facing Resistance: The stock has crossed its Resistance 1 level and is approaching Resistance 2 level. However, its 14-day Relative Strength Index (RSI) is showing a reading of ~64.61, which indicates the stock is approaching overbought zone.
  • Overvalued Multiples: On a forward 12-month basis – key trading multiples (Price/Earnings, EV/EBITDA and EV/Sales) are higher than the median of the Hotels & Entertainment Services Sector.
  • Negative Bottom-line: In FY24, CEH reported a net loss of AUD 10mn compared to a net loss of AUD 17.7mn in FY23 amid higher expenses. Its cash balance at the end of FY24 reduced to AUD 89.2mn vs AUD 141.4mn at the end of FY23.
  • Key Risks: CEH's operations are vulnerable to adverse weather conditions, which can result in property damage and a decline in visitor numbers. For example, severe storms during peak periods have previously caused substantial disruptions. Additionally, challenges such as low consumer confidence, reduced discretionary spending, inflationary cost pressures, and high interest rates further exacerbate the situation.

CEH Daily Chart

Valuation Methodology: EV/Sales Approach (FY Jun'25E) (Illustrative)

CEH is expected to trade at a slight premium compared to its peers considering the positive trading update for FY25, management outlook, consolidation of land holding, expected revenue growth from new properties. For conducting valuation, the following peers have been considered: Experience Co Ltd (ASX: EXP), Betmakers Technology Group Ltd (ASX: BET), Bluebet Holdings Ltd (ASX: BBT), and others.

Considering that the stock is approaching overbought zone, market uncertainties, and risks associated, the share price can witness some correction at the current levels before moving higher. Hence, a ‘Sell’ recommendation is given on the stock at the closing price of AUD 0.500, as of 24 December 2024.

Markets are trading in a highly volatile zone currently due to certain macro-economic issues and geopolitical issues prevailing geopolitical tensions. Therefore, it is prudent to follow a cautious approach while investing.
