Step One Clothing Limited (ASX: STP)

STP is an e-commerce company that operates directly with consumers, specializing in providing a selection of innerwear and underwear made from certified organic materials including a diverse range of high-quality underwear designed to accommodate different body shapes.

Recommendation Rationale – SELL at AUD 1.875

  • Trading Around Resistance: STP’s share price has surpassed the ‘Resistance 1’ level recommended on 29 July 2024; thus, share price can face resistance at the current levels.
  • Technical Standpoint: The momentum oscillator, 14-day RSI (~67.18) indicated that share price was approaching the overbought zone; therefore, retracement can be expected in the short term.
  • Overvalued Multiples: On a forward 12-months basis, key trading multiples (EV/Sales. EV/EBITDA, Price/Cash Flow, Price/Book, and Price/Earnings) are higher than the median of Specialty Retailers’ industry.
  • Increased Expenses: During H1 FY23, Cost of Sales and Advertising & Marketing expenses increased by 22.5% YoY and 29.1% YoY, respectively.
  • Economic Conditions: The apparel industry can be sensitive to economic cycles. During economic downturns, consumer spending on non-essential items like clothing may decrease, impacting the company's sales and profitability.

STP Daily Chart

Valuation Methodology: Price/Earnings Approach (FY Jun'25E) (Illustrative)

STP is likely to trade at a slight premium based on more than 29% YoY revenue growth and over 42% YoY EBITDA growth expected in FY24. The following peers have been considered for conducting valuation: Accent Group Ltd (ASX: AX1), Cettire Ltd (ASX: CTT), and City Chic Collective Ltd (ASX: CCX).

Given its current trading levels, market uncertainties, and risks associated, the share price can face consolidation at the current levels. Hence, a ‘Sell’ recommendation is given on the stock at the current market price of AUD 1.875, as of 15 August 2024 at 1:06 PM AEST.

Markets are trading in a highly volatile zone currently due to certain macro-economic issues and geopolitical issues prevailing geopolitical tensions. Therefore, it is prudent to follow a cautious approach while investing.
