Expansion of EV Charging Program: Beam Global (NASDAQ: BEEM) is engaged in the provision of sustainable technology for electric vehicle (EV) charging, outdoor media and energy security. The market capitalization of the company as on 16 April 2021 stood at ~$295.64 million. As per a recent news update, the company has announced that it has expanded its EV charging program with the deployment of two EV charging systems for public use. The units are located in metropolitan Atlanta and rural Georgia.

FY20 Performance Update: During the period, the company reported annual revenue of $6.2 million, compared to revenue of $5.11 million the previous year. The growth was aided by product shipments to customers in California, including the deployment of 29 units with its plan to electrify America. It reported a loss of $5.21 million in FY20, reflecting an initial increase in costs for the new EV ARCTM 2020 unit. There was a significant improvement in the cash position of the company to $26.70 million as of 31 December 2020, compared to $3.84 million in the prior period end.

Outlook: During FY20, the company diversified its customer base to include various municipalities, colleges, utilities and federal agencies. The company expects to have a favorable year in 2021 on the back of new contracts with the state of Florida.

We have valued the stock using an EV/Sales multiple-based illustrative relative valuation and have arrived at a target price of low double-digit upside (in % terms). We believe the company can trade at a slight premium to its peer average EV/Sales (NTM Trading multiple), considering the improved financials and a positive outlook in FY21. For the purpose, we have taken peers such as Energous Corp (NASDAQ: WATT), Orion Energy Systems Inc (NASDAQ: OESX), to name a few. Considering the expected upside in valuation and current trading levels, improvement in top-line, expansion of its EV charging product suite and the key risks associated with the business, we recommend a ‘Speculative Buy’ rating on the stock at the closing price of $33.34, down by 2.69% as on April 16, 2021.
