Investment Summary

Sector Overview and Supporting Drivers

Australia’s food sector is a vital part of the economy, spanning agriculture, packaged foods, beverages, and retail. It benefits from steady domestic demand driven by population growth and urbanisation, alongside strong global appetite for Australia’s premium, safe, and high-quality produce. Key export markets include China, India, and Southeast Asia, with dairy, meat, almonds, and infant formula as major contributors. Industry trends such as health-conscious consumption, plant-based alternatives, and premiumisation are reshaping demand. While the sector faces risks from climate variability, cost inflation, and trade disruptions, opportunities from technology adoption, sustainability initiatives, and export diversification underpin its long-term growth.
